Embracing a self-portrait through the magic of Shinrin-Yoku.
Have you ever heard of the term "shinrin-yoku"? It's a beautiful Japanese concept that originated in the 1980s and resonates deeply with me. It translates to "forest bathing" and encapsulates the idea of immersing oneself in the ambience of nature.

Research has shown that connecting with nature can reduce stress, boost our immune system, and enhance our overall well-being. It's a holistic medicine that nurtures our mind, body, and spirit, offering a respite from the hectic pace of everyday life.
No actual bathing is required, as the practice encourages us to take care of ourselves amidst such a space where we unconditionally belong.
I share this with you because it was a place like this that allowed me to embrace the visual representation of myself after so long. I am reluctant to take a photo of myself, and until a while ago, I didn't imagine I would even shoot videos of myself looking into the camera. I chose the location, embraced my being there, and began accepting my image. This is my earliest self-portrait after seven years.
